Gumball in Trick-or-Treat Land is a new GBC adventure title from solo developer Exquisite Laundry Pet and retro publishers Mega Cat Studio. The game will be released on physical carts as well as being ported to Steam, and is due for release in 2026. It has been described by the publisher as “a family-friendly RPG offering strategic turn-based battles, sugary-sweet 8-bit visuals, and an irresistible chiptune soundtrack”.
A new trailer has introduced the game, and it shows the quintessential bold pixel art and chiptune music that is always associated with GBC. The press release also mentioned Gumball in Trick-or-Treat Land was “inspired by Earthbound, Undertale, and the classic GBC adventures of the late 90s”.
“I’m thrilled about the opportunity to work with Mega Cat to bring Gumball in Trick-or-Treat Land to Steam and the GBC. Since this project is a love letter to the late 90s era of handheld games, it’s a very special thing to see it get the chance to reach a wider audience in the modern day,” said Adam Graf, the developer behind Exquisite Laundry Pet. “I hope that those with nostalgia for that GBC era feel that this game scratches a similar itch, and I also hope to provide younger players with a new opportunity to engage with the vibes, music, and visual language of the era, which I think hold a unique sort of comfort.”
