Super Mario Galaxy, the 2007 Wii game, is set to fly onto Nintendo Switch next month, along with its 2010 sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2.
The Nintendo Switch release of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 will offer improvements to the original games, including enhanced resolution, improved UI, Assist Mode, and new Storybook content.
The release of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 was announced during today’s Nintendo Direct stream, where “Super Mario Galaxy” was also confirmed as the title of the sequel to 2023’s Super Mario Bros. movie, which is scheduled to be released on April 3, 2026.
Other announcements made during today’s Nintendo Direct presentation included Virtual Boy coming to Nintendo Classics on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, on which we reported earlier.
The Nintendo Switch release of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 is part of Nintendo’s celebration of 40 years of Super Mario Bros. games, and it will be released on October 2, 2025.
Speaking of Super Mario Bros.’s 40th anniversary, the original Super Mario Bros. game was released for Famicom in Japan in September 1985, before receiving an NES release in North America a month later, in October 1985, but Europe would have to wait until 1987 for a PAL release of the game for NES.
