GBA RPG Sigma Star Saga DX Announced For Modern Platforms

We’ve been following the release of the updated version of Sigma Star Saga DX. The original title was released for the GBA in 2005, and WayForward has teamed up with Limited Run Games to rerelease the game with some modern updates. Sadly, those carts have sold out, and those who got in on the pre-order are now waiting for the physical carts to arrive.

However, there is good news for those who missed out on the limited physical release, as the game is also being ported to modern consoles and PC. Sigma Star Saga DX is now expected to launch digitally on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Steam in early 2026, with preorders for the physical Switch and PS5 versions planned for a similar timeframe. A new trailer provided a first look at one of several player-selectable HD border artworks, as well as an early preview of the game’s new title song.

The modern port is being done through Limited Run Games‘ Carbon Engine, with porting handled by Mighty Rabbit Studios. The new version of the game has many updates, including an improved map, decreased random encounter rate, rebalanced EXP system, refined dialogue, additional save points, and assorted bug fixes and quality-of-life updates, all of which are also included in the previously offered GBA cartridge version.
