Quester Breaks Out of the Arcade Archives Today

Quester has been released as this week’s entry in Hamster Corporation’s Arcade Archives and Arcade Archives 2 lines of emulated coin-op titles, following on from last week’s release of Labyrinth Runner, onwhich we previously reported.

This week’s title, Quester, is a brick breaker game that was originally released into arcades by Namco back in 1987.

Hamster Corporation describes the aim of Quester as being: “to safely return to Earth by piloting the spacecraft and defeating the mysterious space organisms(blocks) that obstruct your path. The ball can split into multiple pieces if it continues to bounce off the walls. Use various power-up items to your advantage and aim to clear all 33 rounds!

A space-based arcade brick breaker from the 1980s? Sounds not unlike Taito’s Arkanoid, albeit somewhat less well-known!

Unlike Arkanoid, which has received a number of home conversions released worldwide, Quester was only ever released in Japan, and only in arcades.

Once again, Hamster Corporation has dug up an impressively obscure title from the Arcade Archives!

The Arcade Archives version of Quester was released today (January 29, 2026), on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, priced at $7.99 USD, with the Arcade Archives 2 version receiving a release on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, priced at $9.99 USD.

As usual, purchasers of the PlayStation 4 or Nintendo Switch Arcade Archives version can upgrade to the Arcade Archives 2 version for PlayStation 5 or Nintendo Switch 2, respectively, for $2.99 USD.
