Lexitris set to Drop onto Steam in Next Few Weeks

Lexitris

Lexitris is a new indie game that can probably be best summed up as a “cross between a typing tutor and Tetris, or, as the game’s developer, Andreas Otten, puts it (in a way that deftly swerves any trademark infringement): Lexitris is “an innovative hybrid of classic block-puzzles and fast-paced typing trainers. The game challenges players worldwide to improve their typing speed (WPM) while strategically clearing rows.

“Lexitris breaks the tradition of pure stacking. Before a block (“Tetromino”) can be controlled, the player must correctly type the word displayed on it. As levels rise, both the falling speed and word complexity increase.

Highlights of Lexitris will include: real-Time statistics, including an integrated WPM counter measures keystrokes per minute and makes progress measurable.
three unique modes, from the classic entry-level to “speed-typing” for pros and a “math mode” that turns mental arithmetic into a core mechanic.
strategic depth, with horizontal and vertical bombs, along with joker blocks, that allow for tactical manoeuvres in critical situations.
A global approach, with full localization in 12 languages allows players to train their vocabulary in foreign languages while playing.
atmospheric design, with smooth transitions of hand-drawn backgrounds and a dynamic soundtrack to provide an immersive experience.

Developer Andreas Otten says of Lexitris: “My goal was to create a game that not only plays well but also teaches the player a real skill,” says Andreas Otten. “In Lexitris, every keystroke is a step toward a new high score.”

Perhaps surprisingly, Lexitris isn’t the only typing-based game we’ve reported on recently here at Retro News, having previously reported on Keys of Fury, which was a mash up of a fighting game and a typing tutor.

Lexitris will be available for PC on Steam in late February/early March 2026 at a price of €/$ 4.99.
