The Pokemon titles Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen were Game Boy Advance remakes of the original Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue Game Boy games from 1996 respectively, originally released on GBA in 2004. And now, both Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen will be making their way to Nintendo Switch as digital-only releases this Friday (February 27th, 2026).
Somewhat disappointingly, considering the fact that these Pokemon remakes were originally released on the Game Boy Advance, the games are not being added to the Nintendo Classics catalog for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers but are, instead, being sold via the Nintendo Store/eshop. What’s more, the two games haven’t even been bundled together, so if you want both games in order to, er, catch ‘em all, then you’ll have to buy both Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen separately, as individual titles, priced at $19.99 (or local equivalent) each. We guess Pokemon has such a loyal and passionate fanbase that Nintendo feels that they can charge a premium for the games, and we suspect the sales will prove them right.
And if you enjoy the music from the Pokemon games, tracks from both Pokemon FireRed and Pokemon LeafGreen were added to the Nintendo Music app last week, as we previously reported.
