Classic point-and-click adventure Déjà Vu returns with an exclusive release to Playdate later this year. Developer Pixel Ghost has announced the development of Déjà Vu PD. While the puzzles and structure of the original game remain intact, Déjà Vu PD introduces a redesigned interaction system tailored for Playdate. Players will first click on objects in the world before selecting an action, creating a more natural flow than the verb-first structure used in many classic adventure games.
Originally released on the Apple Macintosh as part of the influential MacVenture series, Déjà Vu became one of the most memorable detective adventures of its time. Players awaken in a grimy Chicago bathroom with no memory of who they are and quickly discover they are caught in a dangerous criminal mystery involving mobsters, stolen items, and a ticking clock. The game went on to find success on several platforms, including the NES and GameBoy Color, helping cement its reputation as one of the most atmospheric adventure games of the era and one of the earliest point-and-click adventures.
“After launching Shadowgate PD in 2025, it felt natural to return to the MacVenture series,” said Pixel Ghost Director, Ollie Coe. “Déjà Vu has such a distinctive atmosphere and story. With this remake we want to keep everything players love about the original while smoothing out some of the friction that older adventure games could have. The aim is that anyone who plays should feel like they have a fair run at solving the mystery.”
