Experimental NES Platformer Mariana Sequence Smashes Kickstarter Goal

The Mariana Sequence is an “experimental” platform game for the NES that claims to be “like no other”. Development on the game is complete, and it was shortlisted as a finalist at the Indie Retro Showcase at this year’s MAGFest, as we reported previously.

The Mariana Sequence has been developed by CrazyGroupTrio, who were also responsible for the NES Mawthorne titles, on which we have previously reported.

The game is a sequel to CrazyGroupTrio’s earlier NES title Tryptic, and it was developed using NESMaker.

Developer CrazyGropTrio describes The Mariana Sequence as “an experimental platformer with an adventure-choosing mechanic that makes the game uniquely different each time you play,”

While development of the game is complete, CrazyGroupTrio is seeking funds via Kickstarter to produce the physical NES cartridges of the game, and the campaign has already been a huge success, raising £11,711, which is more than double the project’s initial £5,291 target.

But if you’re intrigued by the idea of an experimental platformer for the NES, it’s not too late to get involved, with 19 days still left to run on the campaign at the time of writing.

On the Kickstarter page, you’ll have the chance to pledge for rewards including digital or physical copies of The Mariana Sequence, as well as the opportunity to download a free demo of the game.
