The creator of Alone in he Dark, Frédérick Raynal, has launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to bring a new version of his 1988 PC game PopCorn to Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, but it isn’t just the game that Raynal is looking to bring to the console, as he also has plans to create a bespoke ‘PopCorn Spinner’ controller for the game, which Reynal describes as a “full 360 degree arcade spinner”.
The aim of the PopCorn Duel Kickstarter campaign is to raise funds to produce the Genesis/Mega Drive cartridges of the game, and the ‘Popcorn Spinner’ controllers.
Perks on offer in the PopCorn Duel campaign include the game on Genessis/Mega Drive cartridge, either by itself, or with one or two PopCorn Duel Spinner controllers, and a high-end Collectors’ Edition that includes the game and two controllers, as well as a numbered and Signed Mr. PopCorn Figurine (15 cm), and an exclusive Signed and Framed PopCorn 1988 5.25-Inch Floppy Disk, as well as a PopCorn Duel Sticker
Raynal’s PopCorn game is a brick breaker that was originally released on PC in 1988, amnd his planned new Genesis/Mega Drive version of the game will also offer a two-player mode, as well as a tournament mode for more than two players.
At the time of writing, the PopCorn Duel Kickstarter campaign has already raised more than half of its funding goal of £52,331, currently standing at £29,514 raised from 162 backers, with 26 days left to run on the campaign.
