Mega Man 2: the LCD Game has received a fan port to the Game Boy. For some reason.
Game Boy developer Zeichi Games has ported Mega Man 2: the LCD Game to the Game Boy, even though, by his own admission, on X, it’s a remake that “nobody asked for”.
Tiger Electronics, who were responsible for LCD versions of many hit video games back in the day, originally released the Mega Man 2 LCD game back in 1988, the same year that the original NES version of Mega Man 2 was released.
Other video games that received the LCD treatment from Tiger Electronics back in the day included Street Fighter 2, Castlevania 2: Simon’s Quest, and Sonic 3D Blast, so, who knows? Maybe Zeichi Games will see fit to port more LCD titles to the Game Boy sometime?
Zeichi promises that his Game Boy fan port of the LCD game offers “improved mechanics” compared to the original game, and he also sttes that the game is compatibie with both the Game Boy Color and the Super Game Boy, as well as with the original Game Boy.
We have previously reported on other Game Boy projects by Zeichi, Games including his Game Boy Color port of the NES Friday the 13th game, and his DX patch for Mega Man 3 on Game Boy.
You can download Zeichi Games’ Mega Man 2: the LCD Game Game Boy port for free from his itch.io page now.
