1990 Famicom Game Heads West for First Time

Ishin no Arashi Famicom duel with Japanese Console Archives banner

The Famicom game Ishin no Arashi was released yesterday as part of Hamster Corporation’s Console Archives line of emulated console classics for modern formats, following last week’s release of the Famicom title Seicross, on which we reported previously.

Ishin no Arashi is described by Hamster Corporation as a: “historical simulation game, where you engage in fierce debates with feudal lords and key figures across Japan to win them over to your ideology and lead the nation toward a new dawn.
Experience the thrill of moving history not just with swordsmanship, but through intellect and passion! Prevail in the clash of opposing ideals and survive the chaotic upheaval of the shogunate’s final days!”

The game was originally released by Koei for the Famicom in Japan only, back in 1990.

As Ishin no Arashi was a Famicom-only release that has never been released outside of Japan before, the Console Archives version of the game is in Japanese only, although the manual and user interface are available in English.

The Console Archives version of Ishin no Arashi was released yesterday (April 16, 2026) on Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5, priced at $7.99 USD or local equivalent.

It’s great to see that, as with its Arcade Archives line, Hamster Corporation isn’t afraid to dig deep into the Console Archives to re-release some true obscurities, especially ones that haven’t previously been released outside of Japan, such as Ishin no Arashi.
