Moonbrella is a new physics-based 2D Metroidvania that uses a variety of umbrella tricks to ascend to the moon. It has been developed by Jett Willians and announced during the INDIE Live Expo that the upcoming 2D physics-based metroidvania will be launching on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Moonbrella found some notoriety when the developer’s YouTube Short, highlighting the game, went viral and received some excellent responses.
A new trailer accompanying the announcement shows some of the interesting mechanics this intriguing title will feature. Moonbrella uses a variety of umbrella tricks to ascend to the moon, with a strong focus on speedrunning and multiple ways to tackle its challenges. The upgradeable umbrella introduces fresh obstacles for both new players and seasoned veterans, rewarding those who master its unconventional controls.
“I grew up playing console games and fantasising about one day making my own,” shared lead developer Jett Williams. “So being able to publish them myself is a dream come true. It’s crazy just how much indies can do themselves these days. Seeing the recent response to the game from YouTube Shorts has been mind-blowing. I never expected to pull similar numbers to Megabonk, but here we are.”
