Star Fox 64 Remake Announced in Surprise Nintendo Direct

Star Fox 64 Remake Announced in Surprise Nintendo Direct

Yesterday (May 6, 2026), at 3 PM PT, a surprise Nintendo Direct presentation was held after being announced mere minutes earlier, via a post on the Nintendo of America X account, written by none other than creator of Star Fox (and plenty more!) Shigeru Miyamoto.

The 15-minute presentation was presented by Miyamoto himself, along with Yoshiaki Koizumi, and it included footage of a remake of Star Fox 64 for Nintendo Switch  2, titled, simply, Star Fox.

This new Star Fox release follows Fox McCloud’s recent appearance in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Star Fox on Nintendo Switch 2 will feature the courses from Star Fox 64 unchanged, but with all-new visuals, including new cutsecenes, and redesigned characters. In addition to the one-player Campaign Mode, the game will also offer a new Challenge Mode, in which cleared stages can be replayed. It will also offer a 4vs4 online Battle Mode, including compatibility with the Nintendo Switch 2’s Game Chat feature, and a local two-player co-op mode in which one player pilots the ship with one Joycon, while the other is in charge of weapons with the other Joycon. Star Fox on Nintendo Switch 2 can also be played using the Switch 2 Joycons’ mouse mode, as well as supporting the Nintendo Switch Nintendo 64 controller.

Star Fox will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25th, 2026, with pre-orders open now on the Nintendo Store.

As we reported earlier, Star Fox 64 has previously received an unofficial remake on PC.
