New Free Homebrew Cooking Game ChopChop Sizzles onto NES

ChopChop is a new homebrew game for NES that has been described by its developer Sebotron as: a “frantic little NES kitchen game about reading a recipe, grabbing the right ingredients, and racing through the prep before time runs out.” He further describes the game as: “Part arcade panic, part recipe memorization, and part kitchen chaos. One round you’re tossing together soup, the next you’re building a sando, and then suddenly you’re plating curry like your life depends on it.”

In a post on his X account, the homebrew developer Sebrotron says that: “Some weeks ago I needed a break and spent a weekend making a black box-style cooking game for the NES. Here is ChopChop.”
While Sebotron is self-deprecatingly dismissive of his game, posting on X that it offers “5-10 minutes of entertainment,” None other than retro gaming YouTuber John Riggs is a fan of the game, posting on X that he thinks it’s “great”.

ChopChop is available as a free NES ROM download via Sebotron’s itch.io page.

Sebotron’s previous homebrew projects for Nintendo consoles include a JRPG called The Book of Rynn for NES and a platform game called Santa Rush for Game Boy Color. Sebotron describes himself as: “a hobbyist retro gamedev, guitar player and math rock enthusiast from Montreal, Canada.”

I'm a retro gamer and writer who writes about video games for online and print outlets. My love of gaming began way back in 1986 with the ZX Spectrum, before becoming a lifelong Nintendo fan in 1990 with the Game Boy. And although I keep up with modern gaming, we all know you can't beat retro classics (or maybe I'm just old!) https://x.com/paultwist
