Metroidvania Moonbrella Opens Up New Demo On Steam

We first reported on Moonbrella, a new Metroidvania from solo developer Jett Williams, last month. Moonbrella is slated to launch on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S later in the year, but a new demo is now available on Steam and Xbox platforms. The game is being supported by the Queensland Government through Screen Queensland’s Games Grant, which facilitates the growth of the local digital games industry by supporting Queensland developers and studios.

Moonbrella was first announced during the recent ID@Xbox Indie Selects Demo Fest, and a new trailer gives us another chance to check out the unique gameplay mechanics that involve not being able to jump. Instead, the gameplay uses a variety of umbrella tricks to help the plucky umbrella character ascend to the moon. With a strong focus on speedrunning and multiple ways to tackle its challenges, the upgradeable umbrella introduces fresh obstacles for both new players and seasoned veterans, rewarding those who master its unconventional controls.

“I’ve watched hundreds of people play the demo at events, and after 18 months of refining, it’s finally ready to ship,” shared lead developer Jett Williams. “I’m both nervous and excited for the public to play it.”
