Stratego is a 1940s board game that was previously made into a video game several times during the 90s and then as a mobile game more recently. Now, a brand new digital version of the game is heading to PC, following the successful mobile release. Stratego will release on Steam later this year and will include cross-play with those who have the game on mobile platforms. A demo of the new version will be available from June 11th, 2026.
The premise of Stratego is simple: capture the opponent’s flag to win. The beauty of the game lies in its strategy: players start by arranging their 40-piece army (including their flag) in a hidden formation on their side of the board. Each player will take turns moving or attacking using a single unit, with the stronger piece winning the skirmish. Deduce where opponents have placed their strongest units, carefully declare battle, and ultimately capture their flag.
In a press statement, the developer said. “Wanted 5 Games is excited to announce that Stratego is getting a Steam release. The celebrated board game has sold over 40 million copies and is heading from the kitchen table to PC later this year.”
