As revealed during yesterday’s Nintendo Direct stream, confirming what was perhaps one of the worst-kept secrets in retro gaming, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be the next Nintendo 64 game to receive a remake for Nintendo Switch 2, following the remake of Star Fox 64, on which we reported previously.
Considered by many to be one of the greatest video games of all time, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was originally released on the Nintendo 64 in 1998, as the first 3D Legend of Zelda game. That original N64 version of the game is already available to play on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 for subscribers to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service.
This won’t be the first time that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been remade for a newer Nintendo console, as a previous remake of the game was released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2011.
So far, little is known about the Nintendo Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, but we do know that it will be released this year, and first impressions of the remake seem promising, based on the little footage that Nintendo has released so far.
The Ocarina of Time remake wasn’t the only news of interest to retro fans announced during yesterday’s Nintendo Direct. Earlier today, we also reported on the new DK Challenge event that’s currently running on Nintendo Switch 2.
