2-Player Elite Coming to BBC Micro

A two-player version of Ian Bell and David Braben’s seminal space trading game Elite is in the works from homebrew developer Mark Moxon, who has previously ported the game to the TV viewdata format teletext.

Mark Moxon announced his two-player fan port of Elite in a post on his Bluesky account.

The two-player version of Elite will be for the format on which the game was first released back in 1984: the 8-bit BBC Micro home computer.

Moxon says that his two-player version of Elite will be “a deep-space dogfight game” because: “The rest of Elite wouldn’t be that exciting with two players.”

You can follow Mark Moxon’s progress on his two-player version of Elite, and any other forthcoming projects of his, via his Bluesky account, and you can also check out his past projects on his website.

The original Elite is seen by many as one of the greatest games of all time, and it has been hugely influential, inspiring a number of almost equally beloved games, such as Wing Commander, Star Citizen, and No Man’s Sky. The most recent game in the Elite series to date (only the fourth overall) is Elite Dangerous, which was first released for PC in 2014, before later receiving several console ports.
