Retro Shelf 64 Makes Your N64 ROM Collection Look Physical (Almost.)

Retro Shelf 64 is a new N64 ROM launcher that makes browsing your collection of Nintendo 64, let’s say “backups,” look and like you’re actually browsing a shelf of physical Nintendo 64 games, replicating that feeling of browsing a collection of boxed games lined up on a shelf, rather than simply scrolling through a list of titles in text only.
Or as Retro Shelf 64’s developer puts it: “Retro Shelf 64 is a native Nintendo 64 box art launcher for the SummerCart64. Instead of scrolling through folders full of filenames, you browse a shelf of 3D game boxes, cartridge spines, and carts on your console. Every supported game includes its own music, uses real cartridge saves, and can launch 64DD titles. Point Retro Shelf at your ROM library, and it builds the shelf automatically.”

To use Retro Shelf 64 you will need a SummerCart64; a microSD card; and your own collection of Nintendo 64 ROMs, all of which should be backups of games that you legally own, of course!

Retro Shelf 64 runs on both original Nintendo 64 hardware and the Analogue 3D.

To access Retro Shelf 64 you will need to join the project’s Patreon for a minimum of £3.50 GBP per month.

You can find out more about what Retro Shelf 64 does, and details on how to sign up to the Patreon to use it at the project’s website.

I'm a retro gamer and writer who writes about video games for online and print outlets. My love of gaming began way back in 1986 with the ZX Spectrum, before becoming a lifelong Nintendo fan in 1990 with the Game Boy. And although I keep up with modern gaming, we all know you can't beat retro classics (or maybe I'm just old!) https://x.com/paultwist
