Yes, Donkey Kong Country 4, subtitled “The Kongs’ Return” will be released this November, but before you get too excited, we should clarify that Donkey Kong Country 4: The Kong’s Return is an unofficial fan-made game, and not an official Nintendo product, but it’s looking pretty impressive, nonetheless.
Donkey Kong Country 4 will be a sequel to Rare’s beloved SNES Donkey Kong Country games, but starring characters form the Nintendo 64’s Donkey Kong 64, which itself was recently released on Nintendo Switch (officially), via Nintendo Switch Online’s Nintendo Classics catalog, as we reported previously.
The fan-made game has been developed by a group of Donkey Kong Country fans going by the collective name of Kalango, who have been working on the game for “many” years, but it’s finally due to released for PC on November 18, 2026, when the link will be posted via this YouTube channel.
Rare’s original Donkey Kong Country trilogy was released on the SNES in the latter years of the console’s life, with an entry released each year from 1994 to 1996, and now, some 30 years after the final Donkey Kong Country SNES game, a fan-made fourth game in the series is set to be released. In the intervening years, there have been more games released in the Donkey Kong Country series, for GBA, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and Nintendo Switch, but this new fan-made Donkey Kong Country 4 title will pick up from where the third SNES game in the series left off 30 years ago.
