We’ve reported previously on Colin Porch’s Return to Blacktooth, his considerably belated sequel to Jon Ritman & Bernie Drummond’s beloved 1980s isometric 3D classic, Head Over Heels, for the Amiga and Atari ST home computers, which he has been working on in secret for almost 40 years, and later this week, on August 27th, Head and Heels will be puzzling their way onto yet another retro format, when publisher Thalamus Digital releases Return to Blacktooth for the Atari Jaguar.
Designed and programmed by Colin Porch, who programmed the original Head Over Heels ports on the the Amiga and Atari ST, as well as on the Commodore 64, back in the day, Return to Blacktooth features over 300 rooms to explore, and sound effects by the prolific homebrew developer h0ffman, on whose Neo Geo fan ports of Shinobi and Golden Axe, and Metal Gear Genesis fan port we have reported previously.
The Atari Jaguar version of Return to Blacktooth has been ported to the format by Reboot-Games, and it will initially be released as a digital ROM, via Thalamus Digital’s itch.io page, but there are also plans for a physical Atari Jaguar release of Return to Blacktooth further down the line.
The digital ROM release of Return to Blacktooth can be played either using an emulator, or on original Atari Jaguar hardware via a flash cartridge. The digital release of the Atari Jaguar port of Return to Blacktooth will be published by Thalamus Digital this Thursday, August 27, 2026.
