Atari has teamed up with newly revived Activision to release Atari 2600 titles on physical carts, with ten available now to pre-order. The rest of the collection will begin to go up for sale in stages, with a total of 39 carts planned. For serious collectors, four special packs are planned, each containing sets of the standard editions.
The collection includes many Atari 2600 classics from Activision, including Pitfall!, River Raid, and Kaboom! The standard edition carts cost $34.99 each, and will begin shipping in November 2026, which is when the first of the box sets will also ship. After that, the next batch of carts will ship in a staggered release alongside their corresponding special pack. All game cartridges in the Atari x Activision Collection are compatible with Atari 2600+ and Atari 7800+ consoles, as well as original Atari 2600 and 7800 hardware.
In a press statement, Atari said. “The Atari x Activision Collection brings together games that pushed the Atari 2600 in new directions – from the sprawling jungle exploration of Pitfall! and aerial combat of River Raid to the fast-paced action of Kaboom! and H.E.R.O. The collection gives players a chance to revisit the games and design ideas that made these titles stand out on the Atari 2600.”
“In 1979, a group of Atari programmers set out to prove that great games could come from independent creators and ended up changing the industry forever,” said Matt Burnett, VP of Hardware at Atari. “The Atari x Activision Collection brings that legacy to life through the games themselves, allowing fans to experience, collect, and preserve the work of the developers who helped establish a new model for the video game industry.”
