Bubble Bobble has been announced as this week’s release in Hamster Corporation‘s Console Archives line of emulated games from classic consoles for modern formats. This week’s Console Archives release is rather more well-known than the last few weeks of releases, which, as we have reported, have included titles such as Rhapsody II: Ballad of the Little Princess, Touki Denshou Angel Eyes, and UFO: A Day in the Life.
Of course, Bubble Bobble was first released as an arcade title, by Taito, back in 1986, but this being a Console Archives release, this version is the 1988 NES port of the game, which includes three bonus games not found in the arcade version. In addition to the NES, Bubble Bobble was also ported to a number of other 8-bit home computers and consoles of the time.
The original arcade version of Bubble Bobble was released in Hamster Corporation’s Arcade Archives line back in 2022, and 40 years after Bub and Bob made their arcade debuts, new Bubble Bobble titles are still being released today, with the most recent being Bubble Bobble: Sugar Dungeons, which was released on modern formats last year.
The Console Archives version of Bubble Bobble will be released from today (August 27, 2026) on Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5, priced at $7.99 USD or local equivalent.
