Pixel Art Platformer Soulchain Combines With Players For Playtest

Soulchain is a new pixel art platformer from developer Moraguma that is set to release on Steam soon, but is currently undergoing a public playtest of the first hour of the game. In Soulchain, players will “use their soul as a grappling hook to explore the Afterlife in this tight, non-linear precision-platformer”. The developer has said that this is a “unique blend of precision-platformer with metroidvania-like progression” using “a physics-based grappling hook as its core mechanic”. The playtest is free to join now by logging onto the game’s Steam page.

The game is also trying to be unique by not locking progression behind barriers, and is instead using the players’ ever-growing skills to naturally lead to getting further in the Metroidvania-style world. The developers hope that as players get better, they revisit areas that seemed impossible the first time round, only to find out they could’ve got through all along.

Key features in Soulchain:

Master a precise and physics-based grappling hook

Explore the seasons of the Afterlife in a metroidvania-like world

Unlock areas gated not by items, but by movement knowledge

Meet a colorful cast of characters and help them through their journeys

Find collectible lost souls hidden in every corner
