During last week’s Nintendo Direct on September 9, 2026, Star Fox Adventures was announced as the latest GameCube title to join Nintendo Switch Online’s Nintendo Classics catalog for Nintendo Switch 2, with the game made available to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers that same day.
As we reported previously the earlier Nintendo 64 Star Fox title, Star Fox 64 previously made its way onto the Nintendo Switch 2 not as a Nintendo Classics release, but in the form of a full-priced remake of the game under the simple title of ‘Star Fox’.
Star Fox Adventures was originally released on Nintendo GameCube back in 2002, and although the game does feature elements of the rail shooter style for which the Star Fox series is famed, the core game is a third-person action-adventure game, hence the “Adventures” part of its title.
This latest addition to Nintendo Switch Online’s Nintendo Classics GameCube library on Nintendo Switch 2 follows the release of Super Mario Sunshine last month, on which we reported at the time.
Other announcements of potential interest to retro gamers that were made during last week’s Nintendo Direct included the reveal of a new 2D Metroid game for Nintendo Switch 2, in the form of Metroid Ravenous, on which we reported previously.
