Nintendo has announced that Super Mario Sunshine will be the next GameCube title to be added to the Nintendo Switch 2’s Nintendo Classics catalog for subscribers to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service, and it’s the first GameCube title to be added to the Nintendo Classics catalog since Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness back in March, on which we reported at the time.
Super Mario Sunshine was the mustachioed plumber’s 3D platforming outing on the Nintendo GameCube, and it was originally released back in 2002. The game was Mario’s second 3D platform game adventure, following the seminal Super Mario 64, which was first released on the Nintendo 64 in 1996.
The Nintendo Classics release of Super Mario Sunshine won’t be the game’s first appearance on Nintendo Switch hardware, as the game was previously included on the inexplicably limited Super Mario 3D All-Stars compilation back in 2020, but that has been out of print physically and unavailable digitally since 2021.
When we reported on last month’s Nintendo Switch Online’s Nintendo Classics additions, we speculated that the next game to be added to the Nintendo Classics catalog might be a GameCube title, and it seems that we were right!
Super Mario Sunshine will be available as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack’s Nintendo Classics catalog from August 13, 2026.
