Project Dream: Land of Giants is a game that was being developed by Rare for the SNES, following the release of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Quest in 1995.
Sadly, Project Dream: Land of Giants seemingly proved a little beyond the 16-bit Super Nintendo’s capabilities, but while it was never released, elements of Project Dream: Land of Giants would later be recycled for use in Rare’s beloved Nintendo 64 title Banjo-Kazooie, which was originally released in 1998, and, as we have reported, which is set to be re-released on Evercade next month, alongside its sequel, Banjo-Tooie.
However, a prototype version of Project Dream: Land of Giants for the SNES, featuring four levels from the game, was uploaded to archive.org last week, making the game available to play for the first time ever, at least partially, some 30 years after it would have been released.
The game looks similar graphically to Rare’s Donkey Kong Country games, with 2D gameplay featuring characters based on 3D models, but rather than being another platform game by Rare, Project Dream: Land of Giants is actually an RPG.
Following this unauthorized upload of part of the game , would it be too much to hope for a full official release of Project Dream: Land of Giants from Rare someday?
