Earth Atlantis Abyss is a new pixel art shmup from developers Pixel Perfex and Eccentrix Studios that will be published on Steam by Rising Tide Publishing next year. Players take control of Pypher, a seventeen-year-old captain who takes her grandfather’s old submarine down into the abyss to find out what happened to him. Three years ago, he dove to the same spot and never came back. Hero, rebel, traitor: everyone tells a different story. The only way to learn the truth is to keep going down.
The abyss has seven layers, and each one is darker than the last. Light is a resource. The sub’s spotlight is how you see what’s coming, and every layer asks you to trade a little more safety for answers. Every layer in Earth Atlantis Abyss ends in a boss fight, eight bosses in all, built in the bullet-hell style the series is known for.
Between fights, Earth Atlantis Abyss game turns into a packing puzzle. Weapons, engines, drones, and hull modules come in different shapes, and all of them fit onto one small grid inside your ship. Merge matching parts to level them up, fuse two different weapons into a hybrid with a Dwarf Star torn from a boss, and keep an eye on heat and power so your guns don’t jam mid-fight. No two runs build the same ship.
“This is a collaboration between two really talented studios. Pixel Perfex has a deep, beautifully aesthetic, and carefully-crafted franchise universe. Eccentrix integrates intense, claustrophobic, and deep gameplay mechanics with remarkable build variety and replayability. I should be objectively working when I playtest the game, but instead I just want another run for the fun of it.” said Justin Paulsen, Founder of Rising Tide Publishing.
