Baldur’s Gate inspired Passageway of the Ancients heading to Steam

Passageway of the Ancients is a new CRPG available on Steam on 16th October 2024. It’s inspired by classic Bioware RPGs such as Baldur’s Gate and Neverwinter Nights utilising the mix of real-time and turn-based combat mechanics. The game has been developed by Passageway Games, a four-person team based in Texas, and has been in development for many years.

Set in the world of Aieryon, the galaxy’s sole remaining magical planet, Passageway of the Ancients will enable players to build a team of four warriors from various classes. Players are tasked with surviving deadly creatures lurking behind every door, gathering clues, managing the party, and levelling up characters. Other game mechanics include picking locks and solving Runic puzzles to gather the best loot. It has all the hallmarks of the classic games it’s based on and will certainly be of interest to those with memories of sitting on their PCs late into the night battling orcs and goblins.

The combat is tough, complex, and always surprising. Passageway of the Ancients employs both turn-based and real-time combat, taking inspiration from historical weapons and tactics. Furthermore, characters have dual personas to deal which must be levelled up at the same time. This creates a unique situation where players must decide to be good or evil on a whim.
