Birdcage is a new retro-inspired arcade shooter from developer Polygon Bird and publisher EastAsiaSoft. It’s due for release on PC, Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation on September 23rd, 2026, priced at $14.99. The game will also be released in a physical pack on PlayStation 5 in March 2027, with pre-orders now open. To commemorate the announcement, EastAsiaSoft has released a new gameplay trailer on its official YouTube channel and social media accounts.
As exhibited at Tokyo Game Show in 2025, Birdcage is an intense vertical scrolling shoot’em up inspired by genre classics, blending the explosive action of ’90s arcade shooters with modern gameplay and storytelling. Players can strategically switch between spread shots, focused attacks, and even melee slashes to take down swarms of enemy ships. Pixel art combines with 3D elements for a gritty, atmospheric style, punctuated by dialogue and event cutscenes to drive the mature, thought-provoking narrative.
