The 8-bit RPG Bokosuka Wars has been announced as this week’s release in Hamster Corporation’s Console Archives line of emulated titles from retro consoles for modern formats, following last week’s release of The Legend of Kage, on which we reported previously.
Bokosuka Wars is an RPG that was originally released in Japan only by ASCII Entertainment in 1985. The game was released on a number of formats, though the Console Archives version of the game is the Famicom version. As always, to avoid infringing Nintendo’s trademarks, Hamster Corporation has coyly referred to the game’s format of origin vaguely, calling it “an 8-bit home console.”
Hamster Corporation has described Bosuka Wars as follows: “this RPG game puts you in the role of King Suren, fighting alongside your soldiers to restore peace to the Kingdom of Suren, which has been conquered by the tyrant Ogoreth of the Basamu Empire. Help your soldiers, who have been transformed into trees and rocks by King Ogoreth’s magic, as you make your way to Basamu castle to defeat your arch-enemy, King Ogoreth.”
Bokosuka Wars’ most recent release prior to the Console Archives version was a release of the Famicom version of the game via the Wii’s Virtual Console service in 2008, though the game did receive a belated sequel in 2016.
The Console Archives version of Bokosuka Wars will be released tomorrow (June 25, 2026) on Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5, priced at $7.99 USD or local equivalent.
