Nightmare Busters is a run’n’gun game that was due to be released on Super Nintendo more than 30 years ago. However, the game’s release was canceled. Now, Pix’n Love Games and Aurora Game Studio are hoping to release an improved version of Nightmare Busters for modern formats in the form of Nightmare Busters Rebirth, and they’re planning to release the game on a whole host of formats, including the so modern it’s not even out yet Nintendo Switch 2. And in addition to Nightmare Busters Rebirth on modern platorms, the 16-bit Super Nintendo is also set to receive an “Ultimate Edition” of the original game.
A variety of physical and digital editions of Nightmare Busters are available as perks in the Kickstarter campaign, which still has 29 days left to run at the time of writing, and which has so far made £59,195 of its £50,633 goal. We previously reported on the plans for a potential Nightmare Busters remake, but now, the Kickstarter campaign to make the nightmare become a reality has finally launched.
Pix’n Love had this to say about Nightmare Busters Rebirth: “Inspired by the great names of arcade gaming, Nightmare Busters Rebirth immerses players in a stunning universe where the supernatural meets fast-paced action. Combining intense gameplay, energetic action, and graphics blending traditional and modern techniques, this 2D run’n gun will thrill fans of adrenaline-filled experiences on Nintendo Switch, Sony PlayStation, Steam, and more!”
Though the SNES version of Nightmare Busters did eventually see a very belated release back in 2013, the new Nightmare Busters Ultimate Edition for SNES offers a number of improvements on this version, including the fixing of several critical bugs, 60Hz mode optimized for US and NTSC versions, 50Hz mode optimized for the PAL version, default stereo sound, and new game modes.
