Dark Scrolls is a new pixel art action adventure title from developer Doinksoft and publisher Devolver Digital that was originally planned to release on Steam and Nintendo Switch on May 28th, 2026. However, due to another anticipated pixel art fantasy title, Mina the Hollower, being released May 29th, the publisher has pushed Dark Scrolls back to June 22nd, 2026.
Speaking of the change of release date, Doinksoft said. “Luckily, there’s enough room in the world for two pixelated fantasy action games. You’ll just have to wait a little bit longer for this one. And it’ll be worth it – after all, you can play as a rat with a saxophone in our game. Has that ever been done before? We don’t think so.”
Key features:
Choose from a group of nine playable characters and hurl axes, fire arrows, throw knives, or even flip steaks at a gallery of bizarre enemies. Each character – whether a burly berserker or a saxophone-playing rat – possesses unique abilities, side quests, and customizable trinkets to experiment with.
Play alone or get support. Dark Scrolls offers local and online co-op, where you can strategize together and revive each other mid-level.
Super authentic old-school graphics, sound effects, and music. Looks and sounds like classic games of yesteryear – combined with modern controls and contemporary design.
Procedurally generated levels await – composed of handcrafted rooms. Each run brings new surprises, branching paths, and bosses that will test your skills.
