Fake Pokémon Cartridge Spotted At GameStop Raises Concerns Among Retro Gamers

A Reddit post in the GameBoy subreddit caught some eyes. It showed a fake yellow Game Boy Pokémon cartridge displayed at a GameStop. The post received many comments, pointing out the poor quality of this bootleg Pokémon game. Users noticed it was fake because it only had “GAME” on it, missing the full “Nintendo Gameboy” text. These are clear signs of a counterfeit product.

The comments showed a mix of amusement and frustration. Some laughed at the poor quality of the bootleg, while others were upset that GameStop sold it for a high price. This has sparked concern, especially with GameStop launching new Retro GameStops across North America, where retro game authenticity should be a priority. Seeing fake cartridges in these stores raises questions about the reliability of their retro game offerings

People discussed the broader issue of counterfeit games in stores. It’s often hard for buyers to tell these fake products apart. This incident serves as a reminder to be cautious when buying retro games, especially from places that may not verify their authenticity.
