Pixel Art Run ‘N’ Gun Far From Dead Demo Released

Far From Dead is an independently developed boss rush game for PC and Mac. Created in the style of 2D run ‘n gun classics, it plays like a platforming shoot ’em up but with an exclusive focus on boss fights. A new demo for Far From Dead has just been released by solo developer Brian O’Keefe and is available to download from Steam now. There is no specific release date for the full game, but we know it will be next year at the earliest.

Players will face off against a total of seven challenging bosses throughout the game. Each boss is designed with multiple phases and unique twists for players to overcome. The player character’s abilities are centered around a dash that provides generous invincibility and a wall jump that can be used to avoid attacks, along with a rapid-fire handgun for returning fire.

Many fights play out like those found in classic shmups, with a focus on surviving attack patterns while simultaneously finding openings to keep pressure on the opponent. Context for the boss fights is provided through multiple cutscenes and a world map.

Far From Dead is designed to be challenging, with the expectation that players will fail each boss fight multiple times while they learn the fight. An included Assist Mode will allow players to tweak specific parameters related to difficulty, providing a more casual experience for players who desire it. A first-time playthrough with Assist Mode disabled is expected to take about 2-4 hours to complete.
