Faye Falling is the latest release from Eastasiasoft, whose games, such as Alien Breakout and Maiden Cops, we’ve previously enjoyed here at Retro News. Faye Falling is a rather arty, retro-styled turn-based RPG that was originally released on Steam last year, and now, Eastasiasoft have brought the dark adventure of Faye Falling to consoles, with the game haunting consoles as of today (August 13th, 2025).
Prior to the game’s release, we got the chance to embark upon Faye Falling’s adventure on the Xbox Series X|S version of the game.
As you explore the game further, you’ll earn how to cast spells and engage in combat, and this is where Faye Falling really does offer something a bit different. Your success in casting spells, dodging attacks and pulling off fight moves is dependent on your success in retro-style mini games, which initially appear to be rather primitive, but which can be trickier than they look. Sure, you’re just pushing a button to a beat or dodging rocks, or other simple tasks, but I guarantee you won’t be successful every single time. As with a lot of modern indie games, Faye Falling feels very much like an “authored” piece, that was born out of one person’s specific artistic vision.
Faye Falling successfully pulls off a number of impressive feats: it creates a genuinely unsettling atmosphere for its dark story, and it meshes modern arty indie game sensibilities with purely retro gameplay and graphics.
If you’d like to see retro RPGs and mini games combine seamlessly with clever storytelling and a creepy atmosphere, to create something bigger than the sum of their parts, then Faye Falling is well worth a look.
Faye Falling is something of a contradictory experience, managing to feel both fresh and new and staunchly retro at the same time.
You can embark upon Faye Falling’s dark adventure now on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 & PlayStation 5, and Xbox One & Xbox Series X|S.
