Game Boy Camera Works on Switch 2

Game Boy Camera in Switch 2

Game Boy Camera is compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2’s Game Chat feature, as revealed in a post on X by the account GameXplain.

By sheer coincidence, on the day that the Nintendo Switch 2 launched, we reported on a new Game Boy Camera tool, Game Boy Camera Manager, but we had no idea that the Nintendo Switch 2 would actually be compatible with the device!

We knew that the Nintendo Switch 2 would offer some degree of  backwards compatibility, but we didn’t expect it to stretch quite as far as to 1998’s Game Boy camera!

So, if you’d like your online pals to see you in grainy Game Boy monochrome-o-vision at the resolution of 120×112 on your brand spanking new Nintendo Switch 2, then you’re in luck!

However, you’ll need a few more items to get your Game Boy Camera connected to your Nintendo Switch 2, as the Switch 2 only accepts video from USB cameras, and, obviously, the Game Boy Camera was not USB compatible, with USB tech being a mere two years old at the time of the launch of the Game Boy Camera.

So, if you’re really determined to hook up a Game Boy Camera to your Nintendo Switch 2, you’re also going to need an Analogue Pocket console, an Analogue Pocket dock, and a Genki Shadowcast device. Personally, we’d probably just use a regular USB camera with your Nintendo Switch 2, but it’s still nice to know that the option to use the old Game Boy Camera is there!
