The upcoming old-school pixel art RPG Guns & Gargoyles has: “been designed to invoke that old school nostalgic rpg feel,” according to Abin Babu, Founder at Team Ruphi, the independent development studio behind the game, who then added, “I want it to be a game where you can immerse hours of your life”.
The game has been described as: “a survival action RPG set in an alternate version of our world where magic and monsters are real.” In the game, players take on the role of Hasko Brand as they venture through Schwarzwald, the Black Forest in Germany to hunt an old evil.
Guns & Gargoyles is set to be released on Steam, where a demo of the game launched today (August 4, 2026). A release date for the full game of Guns & Gargoyles has not yet been announced, beyond that the game is “coming soon”.
Guns & Gargoyles’ developer, Team Ruphi, was founded earlier this year by Abin Babu, and it is an independent development studio of the solo game dev based in Kochi, focused on retro RPGs.
Guns & Gargoyles is the second retro-inspired new game on which we’ve reported today, having earlier told you about the new retro-inspired music production simulator Offbeat, because, as regular readers of RetroNews will no doubt be aware, we like to keep you informed of all the new, but old-style, games just as much as we like to keep up to date with re-releases of actual old games!
