We may be halfway through July already, but until now, we hadn’t seen a new Evercade Game of the Month to replace June’s Evercade Game of the Month title, which, as we reported previously, was the homebrew ZX Spectrum game Gherbert Groundhog in Save the Date, that is, at least, until today, when Hero GP sped into the Evercade Game of the Month program, replacing Gherbert Groundhog in Save the Date.
As usual the Evercade Game of the Month can be accessed by owners of Evercade VS, Evercade EXP, Evercade Alpha machines, simply by updating the console’s system software, and the game will remain playable until the user updates the machine’s system software again.
This month’s Evercade Game of the Month is a game on which we’ve reported previously, namely homebrew developer Shane McCafferty’s Game Boy Color arcade motorcycle racer Hero GP.
All of 2026’s Evercade Game of the Month titles, including Hero GP, will be collected on the Indie Heroes 5 cartridge, which will be released early next year.
If you don’t have a compatible Evercade machine, but you’d still like to give Hero GP a spin, the game can still be purchased digitally as a Game Boy Color or Analogue Pocket ROM via publisher Thalamus Digital’s itch.io page.
