Karate Champ has been announced at this week’s release in Hamster Corporation’s Console Archives line of emulated titles from classic consoles for modern formats, following last week’s release of Crazy Climber, on which we reported at the time.
Originally released by Data East in 1984, as an arcade game, with a NES port following two years later, in 1986, and it’s the NES port of Karate Champ that forms the basis of this Console Archives version of the game.
Hamster Corporation describes Karate Champ as follows: “This game is an action game where you fight using a wide variety of moves through simple control combinations. Successfully executing major moves earns you many score points. Execute your moves with precision and aim for “CHAMP”!”
The Console Archives version of Karate Champ will release from tomorrow (September 24, 2026), on Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5, priced at $7.99 USD or local equivalent.
This release of Karate Champ is the first release of the NES version of the game for eight years, as MyArcade released a mini arcade cab featuring both ethe arcade and NES versions of the game back in 2018, though the arcade version of Karate Champ was released on Evercade more recently, in 2020, as part of the Data East Collection 1 cartridge.
