We rereported previously on the announcement of Metal Slug Rush, a new smartphone game based on SNK’s classic Metal Slug run ‘n’ gun series of games, that’s been developed by smartphone games developers RingGames, and now, via post on the official Metal Slug X account, we know that Metal Slug Rush will be released on July 6, 2026.
However, the release of Metal Slug Rush isn’t the only thing that fans of SNK’s classic run ‘n’ gunner have to look forward to next week, as according to a post made on Plaion Espana’s X account, there will be a “literally explosive announcement” regarding Metal Slug made on a few days later, on July 9 2026. While there are no further clues regarding this so-called “explosive announcement,” we do know that Plaion is SNK’s partner in producing the forthcoming Neo Geo AES+, console, so could the announcement be a new Metal Slug game to be released physically on Neo Geo cartridge?
Or would that be too much to hope for? After all, the Metal Slug Development Team did previously tease that it was working on something separate from Metal Slug Rush, and new Metal Slug game for Neo Geo would certainly fulfil the “explosive” criterion teased by Plaion! We guess we’ll find out next week…
