A new NES title, Malasombra is in development and is seeking funding to be able to release a physical cart. The game has been in development for more than five years and aims to emulate the classics of the 8-bit era. Malasombra is a traditional action adventure game featuring an “epic story, action-packed gameplay, and modern mechanics”, according to Spanish developer 4Mhz.
The Kickstarter campaign is already underway and has attracted an impressive amount of funds of nearly $23,000. Although the early bird carts are already sold out, there is still time to pre-order a copy with a physical cart available, as well as a digital version for use on emulators and SD card carts.
Malasombra allows players to take control of Pirou, a young apprentice magician who is on a quest to save his beloved Astrid from the evil sorcerer Malasombra. Pirou uses magic to transform into different animals so he can overcome the challenges that await him. The developer has promised over five hours of adventuring and hopes to ship the game in August 2025. It’s fully finished, so the crowdfunding campaign is exclusively to cover the cost of cart manufacturing.
