NetherWorld is a new pixel art adventure title releasing to Switch and Steam this year. The game was originally announced in April 2024 and has been undergoing lots of development changes since. Now, developer Hungry Pixel, along with publisher Selecta Play, has announced a new Steam demo and an accompanying trailer. The demo is available for a limited time during Steam’s Next Fest, with a Switch demo following on the 2nd June 2025.

Hungry Pixel has described NetherWorld as a “depraved pixel art action-adventure”, and features a comedic storyline with all kinds of debulcery along the way. The game stars Medoo, a jellyfish that has been experiencing marital problems. His unexpected adventure sees him team up with other travellers in a drink-filled adventure as he tries to find solace following his marriage breakup.

In April 2025, there was also the announcement that NetherWorld would receive a special Switch physical edition, which is currently available for pre-order from various retailers. The estimated shipping date is the 19th of September 2025, which may also give us a much better idea of when the finished game is likely to be released.

Key Features:

  • Narrative Mayhem – Help Medoo piece together his broken life through a twisted, alcohol-fueled journey full of depraved humor and outrageous encounters.
  • Unhinged Minigames – Win items and money in drinking competitions, seedy encounters, shootouts, or while controlling Tick Joe in filthy roguelike dungeons.
  • Brutal Boss Battles – Face off against savage bosses with a wide array of weapons—or go in swinging with bare tentacles.
  • Pixel Art with Bite – Explore a beautifully grotesque pixel world packed with shocking surprises and morally questionable choices.
  • Depravity with Depth – Beneath the drugs, bullets, and vodka, NetherWorld explores real themes of loneliness, failure, and trying to put yourself back together.
