Playing DOOM on a Volumetric Display: A Sci-Fi Experience

Many evaluate the worthiness of a technology based solely on its ability to run id Software’s DOOM game, and this volumetric display is no exception. Created by graphics engineer James Brown, it operates similarly to a hologram fan, with a matrix display rotating along its vertical axis and illuminating each LED as it transitions through a 3D image. While utilizing a volumetric display to play the game may not be the most practical approach, it undoubtedly stands out as one of the most distinctive methods.

For those interested, James Brown is currently running Voxel DOOM, a graphics mod that transforms all monsters, weapons, props, and items into fully 3D voxel models.

I’m Yousiff Taqi, born in ’87, and I’ve been a huge fan of retro games for as long as I can remember. My favorites are RPGs, Platformers, and Action Adventure. I’ve been interested in computers ever since I was young, which is why I pursued a Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering from Purdue University. Now, armed with my passion for both retro gaming and computer engineering, I’m excited to embark on new adventures in the world of technology, where I hope to merge my interests and make meaningful contributions. https://www.instagram.com/Aeon https://twitter.com/FencerDarkwind
