Classic Shooter Psyvariar 3 Release Date Update Following Short Delay

We’ve been following the release of Psyvariar 3, and have had an update from publisher Red Art Games and developer Banana Bytes. The new vertical scroller, the latest in the highly regarded series, was originally meant to release in March, but following a short delay will now arrive on Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam on May 21st, 2026.

Psyvariar 3 is celebrating the 25th anniversary of Success’s legendary shooter series. With the newest iteration more than 20 years in the making. The game builds on the franchise’s signature “buzz” mechanic while introducing new characters, refined controls, and a variety of game modes.

The game features seven unique pilots (including guest star Cotton from the Cotton series), each with distinct abilities and scoring systems. Psyvariar 3 remains faithful to its arcade roots while delivering enhanced replay value and accessibility for today’s players. More information about the game and its features can be found below.

Owners of the Nintendo Switch version of Psyvariar 3 who play on Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to download the Psyvariar 3 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack for free. With this upgrade pack, players can choose between Performance and Quality modes, whether the game is being played handheld or connected to a compatible TV via the Nintendo Switch 2 Dock.

In addition to its digital release, Psyvariar 3 is also getting Standard and Deluxe physical editions on PS5 in Europe. While Psyvariar 3’s Standard Edition will be available from multiple retailers, the limited Deluxe Edition will be exclusive to Red Art Games’ official online store. Both versions can be pre-ordered from Red Art Games’ official online store right now.
