R-Type Dimensions III Gets Much Needed Patches To Resolve Glitches

We were left disappointed with R-Type Dimensions III when we tested it at release. Thankfully, developer ININ Games has been very open about the issues and has been working hard behind the scenes to patch the game as well as add a few extra features to spruce up the overall experience. A new announcement from ININ Games suggests that a relaunch of R-Type Dimensions III has happened and that the game is running as intended from the start.

Patches 1 and 2 addressed a broad range of gameplay, collision, audio, and visual issues, with a deliberate focus on mechanical authenticity, bringing the experience closer to the original R-Type III: The Third Lightning. Patch 3 continues that work with a comprehensive overhaul of Advanced Mode boss behavior, further refinements to core gameplay systems, and a range of stability and visual corrections.

Advanced Mode Boss Overhaul: The most substantial gameplay addition in Patch 3 is a comprehensive rework of Stage 5 and Stage 6 boss behavior in Advanced Mode, designed to more accurately reflect the challenge and pattern design of the original game. Stage 5 bosses have been returned across shot patterns, movement, and speed. Stage 6’s Mother Bydo has received updates across all phases, including dynamic arm duration that now scales based on player performance, replacing the previous fixed timer.

Digital Artbook – Now Free for All Players: The R-Type Dimensions III digital artbook, previously sold as part of the Ultimate Editions on Steam, is now included in the base game across all platforms at no additional cost. The artbook features artwork and historical context exploring the legacy of the R-Type franchise. The base price of R-Type Dimensions III remains unchanged.

In a press statement to the R-Type community, ININ said. “The past three months have been shaped in no small part by the R-Type community. Players who documented issues, tested builds, participated in the feedback process, and held ININ accountable have directly shaped the game today. That level of engagement – critical, knowledgeable, and consistent – has made a measurable difference in the many improvements. ININ extends its thanks to every player who took the time to report, discuss, and follow the progress of these updates.”

R-Type Dimensions III is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, XBOX, and Steam. Patch 3 is available now on Steam, PS5, and Xbox, with Switch versions to follow within the day once platform-specific certification is complete.
