We’ve been keeping a close eye on the upcoming R-Type Dimensions III, a remake of Irem’s classic shooter. The game is due to launch digitally on Steam, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox on May 19th, 2026. A new gameplay trailer has just been released by publisher ININ Games that shows off the feature in R-Type Dimensions III that allows players to switch between the classic 2D pixel art and the new 3D graphics on the fly.
While this is good news, there has been an amendment to the physical release date of R-Type III Dimensions, which means it will start to ship on August 11th, 2026, but Inin has said this is due to “ongoing global manufacturing and logistics constraints”. That said, the retro publisher did also say that it “emphasizes that this decision was made to maintain the highest production standards and product quality”. There is also a delay to the collectors’ editions that will now ship in winter 2026.
Speaking on the delays to the physical R-Type Dimensions III versions, ININ said, “Despite current economic and supply chain challenges affecting the industry, ININ Games remains committed to delivering a high-quality experience that honors the legacy of the R-Type franchise while meeting modern expectations”. To make up for this delay to the physical editions, Inin will allow pre-order customers to request a “complimentary digital access key” so they will not feel left out when the digital versions are launched.
