R-Type DX: Music Encore is a new R-Type collection releasing on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam on April 30th, 2026. The game is being published by City Connection and contains both GBC titles R-Type DX and R-Type DX II, both originally released in 1999. It will also include a new ultimate mode that combines both games into one seamless experience.

The music encore subtitle has come about due to the new collection containing the full arcade soundtrack, including dedicated tracks for areas that originally shared music, enabling every stage to be played with the same musical structure as the arcade versions. It certainly sounds very intriguing and will surely please fans of the series that these often forgotten handheld titles are better than ever.

In a quote from the game’s Steam page, City Connection has said. “Even scenes that originally shared music have been given dedicated tracks faithful to the arcade experience, allowing every stage to be played with the same musical structure as the original arcade version. The music is composed by WASi303, a specialist in retro game sound. By harnessing authentic sound chips from portable hardware, he delivers an experience that preserves the original feel of the era while offering something fresh and new.”
