Last week, we reported that NESmaker developers The New 8-Bit Heroes would soon be launching a Kickstarter campaign to fund the production of that tool’s successor, a new tool for making homebrew games for both the NES and the SNES, to be called RetroGameForge, ad since we last reported on RetroGameForge, not only has its Kickstarter campaign launched, but in its first day, the campaign had already reached nine times what it was aiming for in pledges.
At the time of writing, the RetroGameForge Kickstarter campaign still has 27 days left to run, with its total currently standing at £51,560, which is nearly 11 times the project’s target goal of £4,821.
RetroGameForge’s release is planned in stages, with early access backers set to receive the tool’s NES modules around October 1, 2026, with the remaining backers set to receive them around November 8, 2026. The hardware components are set to shoip around December 1, 2026, then, the SNES modules are planned to ship around December 25, 2026, with even more sipupport to follow throughout 2027…
It certainly seems that the appetite for developing homebrew games for 8-bit and 16-bit consoles is stronger than ever! If you’ve already pledged for your copy of RetroGameForge, we’ll probably be reporting on your NES and SNES creations in the not-too-distant future!
