RetroGameForge is a forthcoming successor to the NES homebrew developmemt tool NESmaker, and not only will you be able to make your own homebrew NES games with it, but you’ll also be able to make games for its 16-bit younger brother, the SNES, too.
The RetroGameForge tool is being developed by The New 8-Bit Heroes, who also developed its predecessor, NESmaker.
As you’ll know if you’re a regular reader of RetroNews, the NES and SNES are popular formats for developers of aftermarket homebrew games, and NESmaker is a popular development tool for the former platform, having been used to develop games on which we’ve reported previously, such as The Alpha, The Mariana Sequence, and Mawthorne 2, so we can’t wait to see what developers will be able to come up with using the new RetroGameForge tool, once it’s released.
Features of the tool promised by The New 8-Bit Heroes include: a “much more intuitive new development environment,” which is “easier to use while being much more capable,” and new WIFI development cartridges.
So, if you’ve ever fancied creating your own games for NES or SNES, RetroGameForge could make your dreams come true! A crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to produce RetroGameForge is set to run on Kickstarter, and you can register to be notified on the campaign’s launch now.
